Canada Day Steak Salad – a delicious and super easy steak salad with fresh veggies and feta cheese.
Happy Canada Day my fellow Canadians! What better way to celebrate this wonderful day, than with a nice and delicious steak salad. It was a gorgeous day for a little barbecue and we decided to take advantage of it. Of course my dear beagle is always the first in line for a little barbecue. But don’t worry, we always make plenty for her. This was a super simple salad, with a few basic ingredients, but it was superb. It made an excellent dinner and was truly enjoyed by my family.
You’ll need a butter lettuce for this salad, but of course you can use your favorite lettuce, I just love butter lettuce. Clean it up and chop it up.
Next, you’ll need a few small tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, or whatever tomatoes you have on hand. My tomatoes were fairly small, so I just cut them in quarters.
Now, I love Kalamata olives, but they are very salty, so don’t use too many, about 1/4 of a cup of sliced olives.
You’ll need some green onions, about 5 or 6 and chop of them up in smaller pieces.
Add the tomatoes, olives and green onions to the lettuce bowl.
You’ll need about 1/2 cup of crumbled up feta cheese. Add this to the bowl.
The dressing for this salad is super simple, I wanted it that way because there’s enough flavor in here from the feta cheese and the olives. The dressing is just the juice from one lemon with 1/4 cup of olive oil and a bit of salt. Whisk it all together until it emulsifies. Don’t pour the dressing over the salad yet until the steaks are done, because it will get soggy. Now you can get your steaks ready, you’ll need 4 for this recipe. I just sprinkled mine with salt and pepper, very simple.
Next step is very important, get your husband to grill the steaks. If you’re a guy reading this, sorry, please go out and grill those steaks.
You don’t need to grill them long, but it depends on the size and thickness of your steaks and how you like them done. Once the steaks are done, add the dressing to your salad and toss it well.
Slice up the steak and place it over the salad for a delicious meal.
- 4 beef steaks
- 1 butter lettuce cleaned and chopped
- 6 small tomatoes quartered
- ¼ cup sliced Kalamata olives
- 6 chopped green onions
- ½ cup feta cheese, crumbled
- juice from one lemon
- ¼ cup of olive oil
- salt and pepper to taste
- In a large bowl, add the lettuce, tomatoes, Kalamata olives, green onions and feta cheese and toss a bit.
- In a small bowl whisk the olive oil and lemon juice until it emulsifies.
- Grill the steaks for about 3 min per side, more if steaks are bigger and thicker, or if you prefer them more done.
- Add the dressing to the salad and toss.
- Serve by slicing the stead and placing it over the salad.
