Easy Meatloaf

This easy meatloaf recipe here is the only one you will ever need. But first of all I can't believe it's 2014 already, but I have a feeling it's going to be a great year, though not a great winter. We have probably another good 4 to 5 months of winter left here in Calgary, and no I'm not kidding, but we have had snow in June and July here. Go figure. Why do I live here again? Oh because it's sunny … [Read more...]

Beef Soup (Ciorba de vacuta)

Today I'm going to share with you my husband's favorite beef soup recipe.  This is a very Romanian soup and very traditional.  It's very easy to make, just time consuming because you need to boil the beef for 2 or 3 hours until tender. You could speed up the process by boiling the beef in a pressure cooker for 20 minutes, just make sure you save all the beef broth and add that to your soup. Italian Meatballs with Marinara Sauce

italian meatballs-1-4

The weather has been wonderful here in Calgary this week, which is really nice after all the snow we had last week. During the winter, one of my favorite things to eat are meatballs, not sure why but I associate meatballs with winter food. They are a classic comfort food. I have been craving some meatballs with marinara sauce for a long time now, so I finally decided to make them. We make meatballs quite often at my house, but rarely with any type of sauce. But I've been wanting these … [Read more...]

Beef Empanadas

beef empanadas-1-2

Winter is in full force here in Calgary, it's been snowing pretty much every day this week and if you look outside you'd think it was December not October. But that's OK, maybe this means winter will end early. Who am I kidding? My dog seems to enjoy it though, she loves running in the back yard in all the snow. So on such cold weekends, what better to eat than a nice warm meat pie. These beef empanadas couldn't get any easier to make because I used puff pastry. Usually when I've made meat … [Read more...]

Mini Lasagna Cups

mini lasagnas-1-9

Every once in awhile I buy these wonton wrappers because I find them extremely versatile. I've made several recipes with wonton wrappers, such as my Strawberry and Nutella Wontons, Turkey and Mushroom Rolls, and Mini Apple Pies in Wonton Wrappers. So I thought it was time for another savory recipe with these wrappers. I came across a similar recipe on Kevin and Amanda's blog and I thought I'd try my own version of these mini lasagna cups. I actually made these lasagna cups back in January but … [Read more...]

Turkish Meat Pies

meat pies1

I remember a few years ago when I worked in Michigan, my Turkish friend and I went to a bakery. I don't remember if that bakery was Turkish or Lebanese but we bought the most delicious meat pies there. That was the first time I tried these flat, open face meat pies and I was hooked. I remember I bought a few and brought them home and my husband and I fought over them. They were just delicious and they had beautiful Arabic spices flavor. I was determined to learn to make these myself. My … [Read more...]
