Chicken and Peas Stew

So we finally bought a house, the search is over and I'm super excited. It was a very frustrating process but it is now over. Now all that's left to do is wait until we move. Can't wait. It was an extremely busy and hectic week so this weekend I just want to rest, but we still need to eat. So on days like this I go back to my easy recipes and this is one of them. This is a Romanian dish that is a staple in our house. I learned how to make this from my mother, and this is probably one of … [Read more...]

Savory Cheese Pie (Placinta cu Branza)

This is such an easy savory cheese pie recipe.  I don't think cheese pies are as popular here in North America as they are in Europe and especially Turkey. There are so many variations of cheese pies, but I found a very easy way for me to make these. Whenever I make them. my husband and I fight over them, that's how good they are. For these you can use any puff pastry you can find.  I do not make the puff pastry so that's why this is so easy. [easyrecipe id="24" n="0"] Enjoy! … [Read more...]

Cheese Spiral Pie

cheese spiral-1 (2)

A few months ago, for my sister's birthday I made croissants and they turned out wonderful. Croissants is not something I make often, mostly because it takes a couple days and usually I don't have the time, though they are not hard to make at all. Last time I made croissants I used half of the dough to make this fabulous cheese spiral pie. You can also make this with apple and make a delicious apple spiral pie, I have also done that. But if you follow my blog, you know I love cheese pies. I will … [Read more...]

Beans and Sausage (Fasole cu Carnati)

fasole cu carnati-1-2

This is a very common dish in Romania, pork and beans or sausage and beans. I made mine here with smoked sausage, one popular version is using smoked meat, which is really good and has amazing flavor from the smoked meat. You can use any smoked sausages that you like, but I prefer kielbasa. Another choice you have is with the beans. You can use canned beans or dry beans. But if you're in a hurry and have to put dinner on the table in an hour, I suggest using canned beans, it tastes just as … [Read more...]

zucchini and potato fritters 7

It has been such a wonderful long weekend and today is the last day of it. It always makes me sad when a long weekend or vacation ends, but hey that's life. The weather has been wonderful and it was a very relaxing weekend for me. I did not do a lot of cooking this weekend, but I did make these potato and zucchini fritters. I love fritters of any kind, the only thing I'm not crazy about is the fact that I have to fry them. I have never tried to bake fritters before, but I think I will try it … [Read more...]

Halibut Soup

fish soup-1-6

In the month of May I'm going to be featuring only vegetarian recipes and some of them will include seafood. My mission is to prove to myself mostly, that there are many options when it comes to vegetarian dishes. To start this off, I've made this yummy halibut soup. I don't make fish soup often but sometimes I get in the mood for something different and recently I've been wanting to make a fish soup for quite some time. This halibut soup in particular is similar to a Romanian fish soup that … [Read more...]

Romanian Cabbage Rolls (Sarmale)

cabbage rolls-9

Traditional Romanian Cabbage Rolls are made with sour cabbage stuffed with pork and beef and little bit of bacon, the best cabbage rolls you will ever have. Here's my tried and true cabbage rolls recipe that is a must have for every Christmas. Turkey Bites

turkey bites

I love turkey breast and it's a very healthy and lean meat. I like to buy the boneless skinless turkey breast and use it instead of chicken, I think its flavor is much better. Now these turkey bites are to die for. They are so flavorful and just simply delicious. My husband and I (and the dog) could barely hold back long enough to take pictures. To make them really tasty I used lean turkey breast which I cooked in butter, yes butter, everything tastes better cooked in butter. Then I added hot … [Read more...]

Zucchini Patties

zucchini patties7

I love these zucchini patties. These patties are an excellent way to use up those extra zucchinis that you have and have no clue what to do with. My patties are a bit different because I'm using provolone cheese, but of course if you don't have provolone you can use mozzarella cheese. These cheesy patties are so delicious and decadent, they'll become a staple in your home. Once I made these with a cheese mix that I had, mozzarella, provolone, asiago and parmesan and they turned out amazing, so … [Read more...]

Stuffed Peppers (Ardei Umpluti)

ardei umpluti

People always ask me what are some of the ethnic Romanian dishes? Well I don't know how Romanian stuffed peppers are, but it's one of the dishes I grew up eating and is very popular in Romania. Now, of course there are many different variations of stuffed peppers. You can practically stuff them with anything, if you're vegetarian you can just stuff them with rice and herbs, but for us meat lovers we usually stuff them with ground pork and sometimes we mix ground pork with ground beef. Again just … [Read more...]

Greek Cucumber Salad

greek cucumber salad1

I love this cucumber salad, it is very refreshing and super easy to make. If you're not a fan of dill, you can skip it, but personally I love fresh dill, and I love cooking with it, I just love the smell of it and the flavor. Recently I've been using dill in pretty much everything I've been cooking and especially in this refreshing and wonderful Greek cucumber salad. The combination of cucumber, dill, yogurt and feta, is definitely a winner in my eyes. Start by cutting up the cucumber. I used … [Read more...]
