I want to wish everyone a very Happy Valentine's day and I hope you all spend it with your loved ones, eat good food and have fun. Personally, it's Friday, it's Valentine's day, and I have a super long 4 day weekend. Life is great. The month of February is all about love, and I love and appreciate all my readers and to show you my love I have one of my favorite Sunday dinner recipes here for you. Growing up every Sunday we used to have a big meal, nothing fancy, usually roasted potatoes … [Read more...]

Easy Meatloaf

This easy meatloaf recipe here is the only one you will ever need. But first of all I can't believe it's 2014 already, but I have a feeling it's going to be a great year, though not a great winter. It's been a long winter already and I try not to think about it because it literally depresses me. We have probably another good 4 to 5 months of winter left here in Calgary, and no I'm not kidding, but we have had snow in June and July here. Go figure. Why do I live here again? Oh because it's sunny … [Read more...]

Crockpot Chicken Pot Pie

I have been sick as a dog. The irony of it all is that I just got my flu shot last week and sure enough 2 days later I get sick. Not only do I have a horrible cold, which feels like the worst cold of the century, but we had so much snow yesterday, it's like a complete winter wonderland out there, which mind you does not help with my cold. And this is an awful cold, I'm so stuffed up I can't even sleep at night. It's times like this when I really appreciate my husband for taking care of me as he … [Read more...]

Leftover Turkey Shepherd’s Pie

leftover turkey moussaka-1-9

Thanksgiving came and is now gone just as fast as it came. We had Thanksgiving over at our house this year so I cooked a great big old turkey. I made all kinds of pies which some I have shared with you here and some I will share in the next few days like my great classic pumpkin pie that was a huge hit. My husband even said I spent almost 2 days in the kitchen cooking up a big meal so that it can be enjoyed and done with in about an hour! I know, pretty sad, but the fact of the matter is that I … [Read more...]

crispy-indian potato wedges-1

Now look at these potato wedges. Can you see how crispy they are? I think you can. Can you see how delicious they are? Maybe not, so this is where you have to take my word for it. Trust me. They are super crispy, spicy, and oh so yummy. Somehow I never seem to make enough because they go too quickly. Now if you're like me and … [Read more...]

Fries Supreme

fries supreme-1-2

Don't hate me because I'm beautiful. Remember that 1980's Pantene commercial? That's what I think of when I see these fries! Seriously. Look at them. They are gorgeous. But unlike that Pantene commercial this did happen over night, actually it happened in about an hour. Why do I remember these stupid things, that commercial is forever imprinted in my brain. But anyway, look at these fries? Do they make you hungry? Do they make you crave them? I thought so. I hate to admit it but … [Read more...]

Beer Braised Chicken

beer braised chicken-1-2

You know, I have to say it, anytime you add beer to a dish it makes it unbelievably delicious. There, I've said it. It's true! And it's not just beer, basically alcohol makes food taste better. But this chicken dish is amazing. You know why? Because not only does it have beer, but this chicken is paired up with beer AND bacon! Could this get any better?   Probably not! Anyway, I love this chicken dish. It's like a normal chicken stew on steroids. Now I do have to mention that you need to … [Read more...]

Pork and Potato Stew

potatoes and pork stew-1

I made Naan again today and I needed to make something for dinner like a stew so I could really enjoy the Naan and dip it in some nice and tasty stew. This pork and potato stew is quite popular in my house because it's really easy to make and pretty quick, especially after a hard day at work. This is real comfort food for me. This stew would also go great with polenta, so really it's quite versatile. This potato stew is actually quite a popular Romanian dish, in fact potatoes are a staple in … [Read more...]

Italian Parmesan Roasted Potatoes

I love roasted potatoes and they really are my favorite side dish. Not only do I have them as a side dish but I eat them just on their own, as they are very filling. Since I like them so much I make roasted potatoes quite often, and I always look for new ways to make them. My favorite recipe is still my roasted potatoes with garlic sauce but this recipe comes in at a close second. If anything I can probably pour that garlic sauce over these Parmesan potatoes and I combine the best of both. Why … [Read more...]

Quail Eggs in Hash Browns Nests

quail eggs in hashbrown nests-1

Just when I thought I'd used the last of the quail eggs my husband bought, he went and got some more! So back to the drawing board for me to try and figure out what else to make with them. I love quail eggs, I think they're adorable but the thing that really bugs me about them is cracking them open. You really have to be careful so as not to break them, because they're very tiny. Well eggs are perfect for breakfast, anyone knows that, so I thought making nests from hash browns would be so … [Read more...]

Loaded Potato Skins

loaded potato skins

I had a mojito today. I was so hot I needed a cold mojito to chill me off. I don't think it worked. In fact it did the opposite. One thing I miss from living in Southern Ontario is a cold air conditioned house. People here in Calgary don't normally have air conditioners because you normally don't need one, you probably need it for a couple weeks all summer. But it doesn't help when I have the oven on. It turns my kitchen into a sauna. But it was worth it to make these unbelievable … [Read more...]
