Crockpot Parmesan Honey Pork Roast

I missed my crockpot! I haven't used it in a few weeks and every time I'm in the kitchen and I see it on the counter, it makes me feel guilty. How can a crockpot make me feel guilty? So I promised it that this weekend I was going to give it a good use. And I did! You may think that Parmesan and honey might be a weird combination, and it might be, but there's also soy sauce in there, basil, garlic powder and salt, so when you mix it all together, somehow it works. And when you cook the pork … [Read more...]

What's the big deal with crockpots anyway? Everywhere you look you see another crockpot recipe. If you ask me, there aren't enough crockpot recipes. I resisted buying one for a long time, but now I can tell you what the big deal is about crockpots. It literally takes you 5 minutes to get all the ingredients together, dump them in the crockpot, turn it on and forget about if for a few hours during which you can do whatever you wish. slow cooker chicken teryiaki-1-4

What a great weekend it's been. Did you all have a great Labor day weekend? It was my nephew's 3rd birthday and it was wonderful. The only sad thing about these weekends is that they have to end. I also made this crockpot teriyaki chicken this weekend which was a great success. I just love teriyaki chicken and I wanted to try it in the slow cooker. As usual, anytime you make chicken in a slow cooker, it turns out so tender, the chicken literally melts in your mouth. I served the chicken over … [Read more...]

Oyster Sauce Chicken

chicken in oyster sauce-1-6

Finally my kitchen is beginning to make some sense and we're slowly unpacking all the boxes. This makes me happy. I know where things are now, I can cook! So I cooked. Mind you I started with an easy recipe such as this oyster sauce chicken with peppers and snow peas, but today I will bake. Today, I will make that kitchen mine! I had a vision. A vision of a nice chicken stir fry kind of dish. We were both getting tired eating out and take out over the past week, so this was such a welcomed … [Read more...]

Drunken Noodles with Chicken

drunken noodles-1-4

Drunken noodles is a Chinese influenced dish and there are many versions of this dish. Contrary to its name, there is no alcohol in the dish. However in my version I have added a bit of tequila. One theory around the name of the dish is that the dish is so spicy, you need a cold beer to combat the heat. But regardless of what the dish is called, it's delicious. In my version I cut down the spiciness a bit by using less chiles but feel free to use as much as you can handle. This dish is … [Read more...]

Coca Cola Wings

coca cola wings-1-2

This picture doesn't do these wings justice. They were sticky, they were sweet, they were a bit spicy, they were fantastic. And yes, I am talking just about chicken wings. But these aren't just any chicken wings. There are coca cola wings. Who says coke is just for drinking? Now you can have your coke and eat it too. OK, that's lame, I admit it. But these wings truly are delicious. Why do I dare try such weird combinations? Because I love wings, and you know what's even better about … [Read more...]

Asian Style Roasted Quail

Have you ever had quail before? No? Well you must try them. First of all, they are so cute and small. Normally, cute is not a word I'd use for food, but these little birds truly are cute. I made mine Asian style and marinated them for about half hour before. The marinade is great, it has soy sauce, garlic and honey BBQ sauce, ginger, garlic, sesame seed oil, white wine, it's simply delicious. I also seared the birds first before roasting them, just to get a nice color on them and it was … [Read more...]

Spicy Peanut and Chicken Soba Noodles

spicy peanut soba noodles-1-3

I have to admit it. I am a soba noodles virgin! That's right. In all my life, I have never had Soba Noodles. Of course, I couldn't let this go on forever. So I bought some. First of all, I didn't even know what soba noodles are. But as usual, I did my homework, and asked my good old friend, google. How did we ever live before google. Well anyway, this is what I learned. Soba is actually a Japanese word which means buckwheat. So Soba noodles are really just buckwheat noodles. I've … [Read more...]

Szechuan Pork

szechuan pork-1

I'm still here in Southern Ontario and I'm not happy with the weather at all. It's been raining for the past couple days and it looks like it's going to continue raining until I leave. So I'm pretty much stuck in the house with not much to do. Before I left Calgary though, I made this Szechuan pork. I love cooking with pork tenderloin, it's a very lean meat and it cooks quickly, so you could always have a great meal in less than half an hour. I used one tenderloin here, which I'd say was … [Read more...]

My husband's all time favorite food is a good sandwich. Especially paninis. He will eat almost any kind of panini. I mean just the name of this panini sounds delicious. And the sandwich is fabulous too. Have you ever had pork marinated in orange juice and lemon and lemon juice? It's totally divine! Korean BBQ Ribs

Summer is here. It's a long weekend. It's Canada day weekend. Weather is gorgeous. It couldn't get any better. Or could it? Yes! It could get better with some delicious BBQ ribs. A couple weeks ago, for the first time in my life I went to a Korean restaurant and had Korean food. I really liked it, it was during lunch and they had a buffet, so I got to sample a few different types of dishes. One of those dishes was Korean BBQ ribs. I loved them. They were tender and had a … [Read more...]
