Hungry Man’s Pizza

Imagine a pizza that’s more than just a meal—it’s an experience. Loaded with crispy bacon, juicy cherry tomatoes, and an array of mouth-watering toppings, this Hungry Man’s Pizza is designed for those who believe that eating well is living well.
What’s in a name, you ask? When it comes to the Hungry Man’s Pizza, the name says it all. This pizza doesn’t do subtle, it doesn’t do minimalistic, and it certainly doesn’t do “light.” Think of it as the extroverted cousin of your standard Margherita; it’s the pie that shows up to the family reunion in a Hawaiian shirt, ready to turn things up a notch. This is the pizza for those who think a simple pepperoni and cheese combo is child’s play.
And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, you realize you’ve created this feast yourself. That’s right, you didn’t have to tip a delivery guy or pretend you can’t see the calories listed next to the menu items. You are the chef, the artist, the hero of your own Hungry Man saga. So roll up those sleeves and answer the call—because this pizza is not for the faint of appetite.
- Pizza Dough: The stage where all our toppings perform. You could use a store-bought version or make your own.
- Cherry Tomatoes: These little jewels add a burst of juicy sweetness. Grape tomatoes can also work in a pinch.
- Bacon: For that smoky, irresistible crunch. Vegetarians, fear not—you can opt for a meatless bacon or smoky tempeh.
- Mozzarella Cheese: The gooey, melty backbone of any respectable pizza. A dairy-free mozzarella would be an excellent alternative for our lactose-intolerant friends.
- Pizza Sauce: It’s the canvas for our edible masterpiece. Feel like switching things up? Try a pesto or Alfredo base.
- Capers: The unexpected flavor bombs that take each bite to the next level. No capers? A sprinkle of green olives can provide a similar tang.
- Mushrooms: For that earthy richness that only fungi can deliver. Not a mushroom fan? Sliced zucchinis or eggplants are a great stand-in.
- Olives: The salty kick that your taste buds will thank you for. If olives aren’t your thing, try roasted red peppers for a different type of zing.
Trust me, making this Hungry Man’s Pizza is as simple as pie, pizza pie that is. So let’s roll up those sleeves and dive into a culinary adventure, shall we?
Alright, my friend, let’s start with something we can all agree on: bacon is life. Fry up those strips until they’re crispy. Once they’re done, let them kick back on some paper towels to drain the excess fat.
Turn your oven up to 500°F. We’re talking sauna-level heat here, perfect for making all those ingredients meld into pizza perfection.
Now, grab that dough and roll it like you’re rolling out the red carpet. Place it on your favorite pizza pan, which, by the way, doesn’t even need to be oiled if you’re using a pizza stone.
Time for the pièce de résistance! Spread that pizza sauce like you’re painting the Sistine Chapel. Sprinkle the mozzarella like it’s snowing cheese. Then toss on the bacon and veggies. Don’t forget those capers; they’re like the little surprise guests at the party.
Alright, slide that work of art into your preheated oven for about 15 minutes. Just enough time to pour yourself a glass of wine or shake up a martini.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I store leftovers?
If by some miracle there’s pizza left, just put it in an airtight container and store it in the fridge for up to 3 days. For reheating, the oven is your best bet to maintain that crispy crust. A microwave will work in a pinch, but let’s be real, the oven is worth the extra wait.
Can I freeze this pizza?
Yes, but let’s freeze it before baking, shall we? Assemble the pizza, but hold off on the baking part. Wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and then aluminum foil. When you’re ready to consume this masterpiece, just preheat the oven and bake it fresh. You might need a few extra minutes of baking time if you’re starting from frozen.
Expert Tips
- Par-Bake Your Crust: If you’re after a crust with a crispier bottom, consider par-baking it for about 5 minutes before adding the toppings. This helps to ensure that the crust is fully cooked, especially with all those hearty toppings piling on.
- Quality Mozzarella: Use fresh, quality mozzarella for that ooey-gooey stretch we all love in a pizza. If you’re feeling adventurous, try buffalo mozzarella for a richer flavor.
- Fresh Herbs: Fresh basil or oregano can do wonders for elevating the flavors of your pizza. Add them toward the end of the baking time or even right after you take the pizza out of the oven for a vibrant herbaceous hit.
- Pitfalls of Sogginess: Avoid a soggy pizza by draining any canned or jarred toppings like olives and capers. Excess moisture is the enemy of a crisp crust.
- Stone vs Pan: If you have a pizza stone, use it. It distributes heat more evenly for a crispier crust. If you don’t have one, a flipped-over baking sheet will work in a pinch. Just make sure it’s preheated.

Instructions
- Fry the bacon on a plate with paper towels to soak up the fat. Slice up the tomatoes, mushrooms and olives.
- Preheat oven to 500℉.
- Roll out your pizza dough and place it on a oiled pizza pan, no need to oil the pan, if you're using a stone.
- Assemble the pizza, start with the pizza sauce, mozzarella then the rest of the ingredients.
- Bake the pizza for about 15 minutes or until done.
Notes
- Dough Prep: If you’re in a time crunch, store-bought dough works, but if you want that heavenly homemade touch, start the dough a day ahead.
- Bacon Bits: To save time and effort, consider pre-cooked bacon. It’ll get crispy in the oven regardless.
- Toppings: Feel free to customize but remember, the essence of a Hungry Man’s Pizza is its generous topping load. Go big or go home!
- Baking: A 500 F degree oven is your best friend here. That high heat ensures a crispy crust and well-cooked toppings.<
- Serving Size: This makes enough for two full pizzas, so if you’re cooking for one, simply halve the recipe or refrigerate the extra dough for another pizza adventure.

This looks great. Did you use regular black olives or Kalamata?
Thanks.
Kalamata olives, they’re the best!
Can’t wait to make this again!
Mmmmmm, imi ploua in gura 🙂 I make pizza from scratch almost every weekend. It takes a little bit of time, but it tastes so much better than any restaurant pizza around here.
I started using a different recipe for the dough. I use 14 g of yeast and you don’t have to let it rise anymore. I still let it sit 30 minutes, but it’s not necessarily. I also add 2 tsp sugar, but I’m not sure if that makes a big difference or not.
My favorite toppings (aside from the delicious bacon, of course) are prosciutto, corn, roasted garlic, roasted red peppers, fresh basil, feta, spicy salami, sundried tomatoes. If I use mushrooms, I sautee them first with onions and garlic. I love the flavor!
Roxy, there’s nothing better than making your own pizza at home. 🙂
