Cinnamon Roses – These delicious cinnamon rolls are shaped like roses making them not only yummy but gorgeous and impressive as well.

This weekend was a busy weekend. It’s my little nephew’s one year birthday and my father came to visit. I volunteered to make the cake for Nicholas and that took me a few hours but it looks gorgeous. I will post some pictures later.
Yesterday everyone came for dinner here so I wanted to make something special and I decided to bake these gorgeous cinnamon rolls. I saw how these cinnamon rolls were made on a Chinese blog, Lucy’s Kitchen and I thought they were just gorgeous. I couldn’t really use her recipe because the translator didn’t do such a good job, so I used my cinnamon rolls recipe which I modified a bit like instead of the water I added more eggs and milk.
I thought the technique to make these rolls look like roses was great and they were so easy to make. The end result was stunning. I can think of so many different ways to use these rolls, instead of cinnamon and sugar, I could use nutella or jam and I believe they would be just great. Next time, it’s nutella!
I’m not going to go into details on how to make the dough for these rolls because I’ve done that with my cinnamon rolls recipe. Here I mostly want to focus on the technique to make these roses.
After you’ve made the dough and let it rise until it doubles in size, cut the dough in 24 little pieces, and roll out each piece into a ball.
Take 4 balls at a time and roll out each one into a circle so that it’s about 3 inches in diameter. Place the circles on top of each other from the middle down as in the picture below and top with one or two tablespoons of the cinnamon sugar mix, spreading it evenly over each circle.
Starting at the bottom, start rolling the circles until you’ve rolled all the way up. You don’t need to pinch the sides.
This will make two roses. Take a knife and cut exactly down the middle. Place the roses cut side down, in a well buttered muffin tray.
Repeat with remaining balls of dough, working 4 at a time until finished.
Let the cinnamon rolls sit for another 20 to 30 minutes, you will notice they will continue to rise. Brush the rolls with egg wash and sprinkle with some sugar before baking. Bake in a preheated oven at 375 F degrees for about 25 to 35 minutes, or until golden brown.
When you’re done, you’ve got a dozen gorgeous cinnamon roses. They are so pretty and let’s not forget they also taste great. They were very impressive and all my guests loved them.

Tried this out today (coincidentally on Valentines Day). Great recipe, thanks! Your pictures are worth a thousand words.
When you say cut the dough straight down the middle, do you mean length wise or width wise? I am a novice at bread baking so I need someone to be precise!
Thanks,
Liz Davis
Width wise, so you end up with the pretty ends. 🙂

Thanks for inspiring a teen cook!
Is the butter supposed to be softened or melted? It says softened under the ingredients list, but then it says melted in the instructions!
Hi Cat, I always melt the butter, so I changed the ingredients list to say melted. Thanks.
