Meatballs in Beer Sauce with Leeks – meatballs in a delicious beer sauce. How can you beat that?

Meatballs in Beer Sauce with Leeks

If you love meatballs, you’re going to love this dish. How can you not love this dish, especially if you’re a man, meatballs and beer. Beat that!! Now I made my own meatballs here but you can certainly make your life easier, and just buy some already made meatballs. The dish is kid friendly, don’t worry the beer cooks down, so there won’t be any alcohol left.

Now if you’re going to make the meatballs, you can use your favorite meatballs recipe for this or use the one I have here. Very simple meatball recipe, ground pork, egg, breadcrumbs, salt and pepper. I also added some dill because I wanted to add some herbs to the meatballs and I happen to love dill.

Formed meatballs

Shape the meatballs any size you want, I made these ones just a bit bigger. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil and add the leeks to it.

Leeks cooking in a skillet

Saute the leeks until they are tender then add the meatballs to the skillet. Cook the meatballs until just lightly browned all around.

Sprinkle the tablespoon of flour over the meatballs, and stir them around. And now the best ingredient ever, pour the beer over the meatballs. It will be very foamy at first, but just cook the meatballs for about 5 minutes, until the alcohol in the beer cooks down. Add the water to the skillet, and season with salt and pepper.

Simmer on medium heat for another 30 minutes, you’ll notice the sauce thicken and reduce. It will be very flavorful, the beer gives the sauce a bitter taste, that’s why we have to add the water to kinda soften that up a bit. The sauce will be just delicious and the meatballs nice and tender. You’re going to love this dish.

Oh my, once again you gave me a great dinner to serve!!!! Hubby & I both loved this!!!!! Thank you!!!!! Since we both like beer (probably more than we should!) I think next time we will try an extra cup of beer instead of water. Can’t hurt to try, right?
