Blackened Shrimp

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon oregano dried
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • 1 ½ pounds shrimp uncooked, peeled
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic minced

Optional garnish

  • cilantro fresh, chopped
  • lime wedges

Instructions

  • Combine the chili powder, paprika, cumin, oregano, garlic powder, brown sugar, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Dump the mixture over the shrimp and mix well. Set aside to marinate for 30 minutes.
  • Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium-high. Arrange the shrimp in a single layer and cook for 2 minutes. Flip and cook for another 2 minutes. 
  • Add the garlic, stir, and cook for 30 seconds. Garnish with cilantro and lime wedges to serve.

Notes

  1. If you use pre-cooked shrimp, cook only for 30 seconds on each side as to not over-cook the shrimp.
  2. Allow frozen shrimp to thaw fully before cooking.
