Ingredients

  • 12 slices bacon thick cut
  • 8 slices bread thick sliced
  • 4 tablespoons butter unsalted
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 large tomatoes sliced into ¼-inch sliced
  • 8 leaves lettuce such as butter lettuce

Instructions

  • Start by cooking your bacon. You can either fry it, cook it in the oven or air fry it which I find easiest. To air fry, place the bacon in the air fryer basket and cook for 5 to 8 minutes at 400°F or until cooked to your liking.

  • Lightly spread butter on both sides of the bread, then toast in a dry skillet over medium-high heat until golden brown.

  • Place 4 slices of bread on a cutting board, then spread with a tablespoon of mayo on each slice. Top each slice of bread with 2 lettuces leaves, tomato slices and bacon. Spread remaining mayo on remaining toasted bread and place sauce side down over the sandwich.

  • Cut in half and serve immediately.

Notes

  1. Drain the bacon. Make sure to place your cooked bacon on some paper towels so that the excess fat can drain. Not doing so can make your sandwich greasy.
  2. Use unsalted butter. Bacon is naturally salty and mayo has salt in it too, so use unsalted butter to toast your bread to prevent the BLT from being oversalted.
  3. Add some avocado. If you want to make this classic a bit more modern just add some fresh sliced avocado to the sandwich along with the lettuce and tomato.
  4. Leftovers will keep in the fridge for up to 3 days. Just remove them from the fridge a few minutes prior to eating to allow them to come to room temperature. You can also remove the bacon from the BLT and reheat it in the microwave for about 30 seconds.
