Ingredients

  • 1 ripe cantaloupe or honeydew melon
  • 12 slices prosciutto halved lengthwise
  • fresh basil leaves
  • Balsamic glaze for drizzling

Instructions

  • Cut the melon in half and scoop out the seeds. Using a melon baller or a small spoon, create melon balls. Aim for 24 if you can. Place them in a bowl and set aside.
  • Cut each slice of prosciutto in half lengthwise so you get 24 thinner strips.
  • Take a strip of prosciutto and fold it once or twice so it's roughly the size of your melon balls. Place a leaf between the melon and prosciutto.
  • Thread a melon ball onto a toothpick or small skewer, followed by the folded prosciutto and basil.
  • Arrange the skewers on a serving platter. Right before serving, drizzle a bit of balsamic glaze over the skewers for that extra punch of flavor.

Notes

  1. Melon Selection: Use ripe cantaloupe or honeydew for the best flavor and sweetness.
  2. Prosciutto Thickness: Opt for thinly sliced prosciutto for easier wrapping and a balanced taste.
  3. Basil Substitute: Mint or arugula can be used instead of basil for a different flavor twist.
  4. Serving Tip: Add balsamic glaze just before serving to maintain the best texture and appearance.
  5. Make-Ahead: Assemble skewers a few hours ahead, but refrigerate until serving.
  6. Vegetarian Option: Replace prosciutto with mozzarella or feta cheese for a vegetarian variant.
