Easy Meatloaf

favorite-meatloaf-1

This easy meatloaf recipe here is the only one you will ever need. But first of all I can't believe it's 2014 already, but I have a feeling it's going to be a great year, though not a great winter. It's been a long winter already and I try not to think about it because it literally depresses me. We have probably another good 4 to 5 months of winter left here in Calgary, and no I'm not kidding, but we have had snow in June and July here. Go figure. Why do I live here again? Oh because it's sunny … [Read more...]

Perfect Pulled Pork

pulled pork1

Pulled Pork! Yep, I can honestly say we've never had it before until a couple years ago, when my husband and I were watching Diners, Drive-inns, and Dives on the food network channel and we saw a show where they showed these juicy and sinful pulled pork sandwiches. We knew we had to try it, we love pork, so pulled pork has got to be amazing.  So we did and, yes it was amazing. Pulled pork must be an American thing because I can't say I've ever seen it at a restaurant either or anywhere else. … [Read more...]

Beef Soup (Ciorba de vacuta)

IMG_0008-3

Today I'm going to share with you my husband's favorite beef soup recipe.  This is a very Romanian soup and very traditional.  It's very easy to make, just time consuming because you need to boil the beef for 2 or 3 hours until tender. You could speed up the process by boiling the beef in a pressure cooker for 20 minutes, just make sure you save all the beef broth and add that to your soup. [easyrecipe id="47" n="0"] Enjoy! … [Read more...]

Romanian Cabbage Rolls (Sarmale)

cabbage rolls-9

Traditional Romanian Cabbage Rolls are made with sour cabbage stuffed with pork and beef and little bit of bacon, the best cabbage rolls you will ever have. Here's my tried and true cabbage rolls recipe that is a must have for every Christmas. First of all, the big difference between Romanian cabbage rolls and others are that we make them with sour cabbage.  You can find sour cabbage at pretty much all grocery stores, here in Calgary, we always find them at Safeway or any Polish store. With … [Read more...]

Stuffed Peppers (Ardei Umpluti)

ardei umpluti

People always ask me what are some of the ethnic Romanian dishes? Well I don't know how Romanian stuffed peppers are, but it's one of the dishes I grew up eating and is very popular in Romania. Now, of course there are many different variations of stuffed peppers. You can practically stuff them with anything, if you're vegetarian you can just stuff them with rice and herbs, but for us meat lovers we usually stuff them with ground pork and sometimes we mix ground pork with ground beef. Again just … [Read more...]

Beef Salad (Salata de boeuf)

Salata-de-boeuf

Now this is an interesting salad and I can't say I've had this anywhere else or seen it on any menu. But it is the most traditional salad in Romania for all holidays. If we didn't make this, it just wouldn't feel like Christmas, or Easter or whatever. Growing up I was always in charge of cutting up all the meat and vegetables. It was my favorite thing to do. It is very delicious but I would imagine somewhat high in calories because of all the mayonnaise. My mother always used to make it with … [Read more...]

Romanian meatballs (Chiftele)

chiftele

Forget all other meatball recipes, this recipe is to die for! You can use these meat balls for your spaghetti, you can make a tomato sauce with them, or you can just plainly eat them by themselves with bread.  You can fry these, or if you're watching your weight, you can bake them. I simply just love these. I chose to fry them this time, but many times I have baked them and they are just as wonderful. [amd-zlrecipe-recipe:61] Enjoy! … [Read more...]
