This pull apart bread has been done now over and over again but I've never really tried it. Until now. I thought it was time. So I started my research, as I usually do before I embark on any project. Of course the internet is full of pull apart bread recipes, so the secret was finding one that would work for me and changing it up so that it is easy enough for anyone to follow. Mystery Cake with Cream Cheese Icing

mystery cake-1-3

I'm super excited to share this recipe with you. This recipe for mystery cake dates back to the 1930s and this cake used to be very popular. You may wonder why it's called mystery cake and the answer is simple. The special ingredient used in this cake may surprise you. It's Campbell's Tomato Soup! No lie! Not too worry though, there is no tomato taste in this cake at all. The reason tomato soup was used is because during the 1030s ingredients such as butter and eggs were precious and hard … [Read more...]

Crepes (Clatite)

Well this is my favorite dessert ever, probably because as a child I ate this a lot. I've been making these for as long as I can remember.  They are easy to make, and the best part is that you can fill them with anything you like.  My favorite filling is nutella, or just any plain old jam, raspberry, strawberry, blueberry, apricot, whatever you have in your fridge.  I'm making them now because my husband bought this great blueberry Saskatoon jam, and it would be a waste not to make some crepes … [Read more...]

Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends! It's been a pretty cold week here in Calgary but it was also very beautiful the way the tree branches were covered in snow, the trees look like they belong on a Christmas card, simply magnificent. I have to be careful now because I almost sound like I enjoy this weather. :) Today's recipe is saffron raisin buns which are from a recipe I found on a Polish website and I thought the buns looked incredible. It was my husband's birthday a couple weeks ago and for the longest time he's been asking for a carrot cake, so I thought this was the perfect opportunity to make one. Now I've probably only made a carrot cake twice before in my life, so I had to look for a recipe. I found Paula's Dean's recipe and every single time when I've tried her recipes in the past, it was never disappointing. In fact they always turned out great. Now if you look at the ingredients of the cake, it looks like there … [Read more...]

After 15 years of doing software development, I decided it's time for a change for me. An opportunity came up at work and I took it. I guess you could say it's a bit of a career change, but I'm still in IT, so it's not a complete career change. However, for me, something totally new and I'm looking forward to it. Most people are scared of change, but I love change, I love to learn something new and expand my knowledge. Now, I have a new team and this team has a tradition that every week at the … [Read more...]

Tuna Salad with Pecans and Raisins

I came home from work tonight, only to be surprised by my husband with dinner. I love it when he does this. Honestly I don't care what he makes, just the fact that he makes dinner is more than enough for me. Tonight he surprised me with this wonderful tuna salad with pecans and raisins. He made a couple sandwiches with it and I gobbled it up, it was so delicious. I wish there would be left overs so I can take some for lunch tomorrow, but no such thing, it was just that good. The ingredients … [Read more...]

Ricotta Cheese Cake

Romanians love their cheese pastries, cheese pies, crepes filled with cheese, and cheese cakes, and I'm no different. Cheesecake is by far my favorite dessert, but this is an interesting cake, it's called a cheesecake but it's not your traditional cheesecake with cream cheese.  This is yet another traditional Romanian recipe that I just love.  It's a very easy cake to make, and the big difference between this cake and your traditional cheesecake is this is made with ricotta cheese.  This cake is … [Read more...]
