Sweet and Sour Chicken

I'm sure somewhere in the world it's warm and sunny and people are wearing their shorts  or short  skirts and flip flops. I envy those people! I wonder does anyone envy me? The snow mountains in front of the house getting bigger instead of melting, snowing every day, wearing my thick winter jacket, snow boots and all? Anyone? There must be some snow bunnies out there. If you do envy my cold snowy weather can we switch? Now I have to tell you about one of my all time favorite foods. Chicken of … [Read more...]

Classic Shortbread Cookies

Let the baking begin! I love the month of December. I get to bake lots of cookies and share it with all my friends. Baking around the holidays is so nostalgic for me. I love to bake in my kitchen as I listen to Christmas music, sometimes the same song over and over, because I have a handful of Christmas songs that I absolutely love. But the trick to baking lots of cookies is coming up with new recipes all the time. I know there are thousands of cookie recipes out there, but I want to bake the … [Read more...]

Chocolate Sugar Cookies

I bought this adorable cookie cutter last time I went to Canmore, there were so many cute little kitchen shops, I was in heaven. It was hard to keep me from buying everything. I had to focus and only buy the things that stood out to me, something out of the ordinary. And this little cookie cutter stood out to me so I had to buy it. I wanted to make the perfect cookies with it. I thought perhaps a shortbread cookie would be great, but then I remembered these chocolate cookies and I realized … [Read more...]

Cinnamon Bread

cinnamon bread-1-3

I love Saturday mornings, don't you. I can sleep in and when I wake up I can actually have a nice cup of coffee at home. But I woke up this morning, craving cinnamon bread. I love cinnamon bread especially for breakfast. However, I was not to have the cinnamon bread for breakfast, as it would take a while for the dough to rise, but I did end up having it later in the afternoon and it was still as good. And moreover, tomorrow morning I will have cinnamon bread. YES! Now you can definitely add … [Read more...]

Who doesn't love the cinnabons at the malls? Just walking by their stores and smelling these cinnabons baking, drives me up the walls. It's very hard to keep on walking and not stop and spend $5 on a cinnabon. Not to worry my friends! I have found the precious cinnabon recipe. I came across this book, More Top Secret Recipes: More Fabulous Kitchen Clones of America's Favorite Brand-Name Foods, and inside it I found the copycat recipe for cinnabons. This book is great, it has a lot of copycat … [Read more...]

Mandazi, African Donuts

african donuts-1 (2)

I've been really sick this weekend with a sore throat and the last thing I wanted to do is cook. But I was in the mood for some donuts. :) I wanted something different though, and surfing through the web I came across this African donuts recipe. I was delighted. Don't get me wrong, most donuts recipes are pretty similar but these donuts are with coconut milk which is what I think makes them special. They were wonderful, so tasty, light and fluffy, not too sweet, so I sprinkled some … [Read more...]

Chocolate Blueberry Jam Pull Aparts

I don't know what to call this. I've thought and thought about it. So I'm stuck with Chocolate Blueberry Jam Pull Aparts. Why? I have no idea. But who cares what it's called. It's freaking amazing! You know, there's a bakery close by here, Cob's Bakery, and every once in a while after work we'll stop by there and pick up some goodies. They have this pastry called Blueberry Teatime or Cranberry Teatime, and sometimes we'll pick up one of those. They look amazing and oh boy are they ever … [Read more...]

Szechuan Pork

I'm still here in Southern Ontario and I'm not happy with the weather at all. It's been raining for the past couple days and it looks like it's going to continue raining until I leave. So I'm pretty much stuck in the house with not much to do. Before I left Calgary though, I made this Szechuan pork. I love cooking with pork tenderloin, it's a very lean meat and it cooks quickly, so you could always have a great meal in less than half an hour. I used one tenderloin here, which I'd say was … [Read more...]

Carrot Cake

It was my husband's birthday a couple weeks ago and for the longest time he's been asking for a carrot cake, so I thought this was the perfect opportunity to make one. Now I've probably only made a carrot cake twice before in my life, so I had to look for a recipe. I found Paula's Dean's recipe and every single time when I've tried her recipes in the past, it was never disappointing. In fact they always turned out great. Now if you look at the ingredients of the cake, it looks like there … [Read more...]

Nutty Banana Sundae

Nutty Banana Sundae-1

I love summer and one of the main reasons I love summer is the fact that I can eat ice cream, because it's hot enough. I know you're probably thinking that I could eat ice cream all year round, but not really, as soon as I have ice cream in the winter, immediately I get a soar throat. Not in the summer. I can eat lots of ice cream. So because I can only eat ice cream in the summer I try and make it a special occasion whenever I do so. This is why I strongly recommend this nutty banana sundae. … [Read more...]

Summer is here. It's a long weekend. It's Canada day weekend. Weather is gorgeous. It couldn't get any better. Or could it? Yes! It could get better with some delicious BBQ ribs. A couple weeks ago, for the first time in my life I went to a Korean restaurant and had Korean food. I really liked it, it was during lunch and they had a buffet, so I got to sample a few different types of dishes. One of those dishes was Korean BBQ ribs. I loved them. They were tender and had a … [Read more...]

Blueberry Chocolate Rolls

I love making cinnamon rolls and I make them quite often, but my husband is not a big fan of cinnamon. So I kept thinking of making these rolls with a different filling. He likes chocolate so why not chocolate. They have to be just as good if not better. I also had some blueberries so I thought the addition of blueberries would make these rolls a novelty. I was absolutely right. These rolls are scrumptious, delicious, they simply make you want to eat more and more. By the way if you don't … [Read more...]
