The Best Frittata Recipe

Good morning! Maybe it’s afternoon, maybe it’s the middle of the night, whatever time it is, it’s time to make this Frittata recipe! If you’re anything like me, you love breakfast foods. Morning or night, this easy dish is perfect for anytime of the day because of how EASY it is!

Eggs, bacon, feta cheese, and mixed veggies make up this brunch staple. Cooked in one pan, in under 30 minutes, it’s the perfect recipe for a busy morning, yet delicious enough to serve as an impressive meal for guests.

Why You’ll Love This Frittata

  • Easy To Make
  • Simple Ingredient List
  • Gluten Free
  • Perfect Breakfast/Brunch
  • Versatile & Customizable

This frittata tastes just as good as it looks! With a fluffy texture, and rich, creamy flavor, it’s ideal for breakfast or brunch. Think of it as a quiche, without the crust! Since there isn’t a crust, this is the perfect option for gluten-free eaters.

Ingredient Notes

overhead shot of all the ingredients needed to make frittata.
  • Bacon – I used thick cut bacon. I like to slice it up into smaller pieces, it makes it easier and faster to fry this way.
  • Butter – I always opt for unsalted to control the sodium content of my dish.
  • Veggies – I used a large leek, cleaned and thinly sliced and mushrooms, cleaned and chopped. Feel free to use your preference of vegetables.
  • Cheese – Crumbled feta cheese! You can use your preferred cheese, but I think feta works best.
  • Eggs – Large eggs!
  • Garnish – I garnished my frittata with roasted cherry tomatoes and chopped fresh parsley! Both are optional but the roasted tomatoes add a burst of delicious flavor to this frittata.

How To Make A Frittata

detailed process shots showing how to make frittata.
  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to broil.
  2. Cook Bacon: Add the bacon to a large skillet and cook until crispy, about 6 to 8 minutes. Transfer the bacon to a paper towel lined plate to drain. Discard the bacon fat, leaving 1 tbsp of it in the skillet.
  3. Cook Veggies: Add the 2 tbsp of butter to the skillet and melt over medium heat. Add the leeks and cook until softened over medium low heat, about 5 minutes. Add the mushrooms to the skillet and cook for another 5 minutes until the mushrooms start to brown. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Add the bacon back to the skillet and stir.
  4. Make Egg Mixture: In a bowl, whisk the feta cheese with the eggs. Pour this mixture over the leek and mushroom mixture, making sure it’s fully covered in egg.
  5. Cook: Transfer the skillet to the oven and broil for 3 minutes or until the frittata starts to brown on top and it no longer jiggles. If your oven doesn’t have a broil function, preheat it to 375°F and cook the frittata for 18 to 20 minutes or until browned.
  6. Serve: Serve with roasted cherry tomatoes and garnished with fresh parsley.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is A Frittata?

A frittata is an Italian egg dish, similar to an omelette or quiche (minus the crust). Since frittatas are often served at room temperature, they are popular for brunches or for a make ahead breakfast for larger groups.

How Do I Know When My Frittata Is Done?

As soon as the frittata starts to brown on top and it no longer jiggles, you’re good to go!

What Can I Add To My Frittata?

This is one of those “dump in what you have” type dishes. You can use your choice of meats such as ham or prosciutto, vegetables like spinach, onions or peppers, spices, cheeses etc. Completely up to you and your preferences!

Can I Make This In Advance?

Yes! Frittatas are awesome to make ahead of time. You can prep everything up until step 4 and instead of baking, transfer to the fridge and store covered overnight. When ready to serve, just pop it in the oven and you’re all set!
