Why settle for a regular burger when you can have a Guacamole Burger? Let every bite transport you to a world where creaminess meets zest.
The Best Guacamole Burger Recipe
Combine the classic succulence of a grilled burger with the creamy richness of homemade guacamole, and you get the guacamole burger—a harmonious blend of flavors. With each bite, the melt-in-your-mouth provolone and juicy beef complement the zesty avocado mix, making every mouthful a culinary celebration.
- Ground beef: The primary protein source and the star of the burger. Can substitute with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
- Salt, Pepper, Cumin, and Oregano: Seasonings that give the beef its flavor. Adjust according to taste and dietary needs.
- Avocado: The creamy base for the guacamole. Look for ripe avocados but avoid those that feel overly soft.
- Provolone cheese: Adds a smooth, tangy taste to the burger. Can be replaced with mozzarella or Swiss cheese.
- Tomato: Adds freshness and a slight acidity to the guacamole.
- Lemon juice: Provides zest and helps prevent the avocado from browning.
- Burger buns: The vessel that holds everything together. Opt for whole grain or gluten-free buns if desired.
Start off by blending the salt, pepper, cumin, and oregano with the ground beef, and shape them into three sizable patties. Get your grill fired up and sear those patties for roughly 5 minutes on each side. As you flip them, layer on a slice of provolone cheese to each, letting it melt gracefully. While the beef’s cooking, give your buns a light toast on the grill for that extra crunch.
For the guacamole, simply mash up a ripe avocado, mix in the chopped tomato, squeeze in some lemon juice, and season as you see fit. When everything’s set, assemble your burger with the patty at the base, crown it generously with guacamole, and sandwich it with the top bun.
Expert Tips
- Choose Your Beef: For juicier burgers, opt for ground beef with a fat content of around 20%. This ensures the patty stays moist and flavorful during grilling.
- Ripe Avocado: Make sure your avocado is perfectly ripe for the guacamole – it should yield to gentle pressure but not be overly soft.
- Don’t Overmix: When combining the beef with the seasonings, mix just until they’re combined. Overmixing can lead to dense patties.
- Grill Temperature: Ensure your grill is at a medium-high heat for even cooking and those classic grill marks.
- Resting is Key: After grilling, let your patties rest for a few minutes before assembling the burger. This allows the juices to redistribute, ensuring a moist bite every time.

Instructions
- Start by mixing the ground beef with the salt and pepper, cumin and oregano. Shape into 3 big patties.
- Place patties on grill and grill for about 5 min per side. Once you turn the patties over, add the slice of cheese to each patty and let the cheese melt.
- Grill the buns for about 1 min each.
- To make the guacamole, mash the avocado, add the chopped tomato, juice of 1/2 lemon and salt and pepper to taste, and mix well.
- To assemble the burger, place the patty on the bottom half of the bun, add a big dollop of guacamole on top of the cheese and top with the top bun.
Notes
- For an even zestier guacamole, consider adding a finely chopped jalapeño or a splash of hot sauce.
- When grilling the patties, resist the urge to press down on them. This keeps the juices inside and ensures a moist burger.
- If storing leftover guacamole, place a piece of plastic wrap directly on the surface before sealing in a container to minimize browning.
- Provolone cheese can be substituted, but opt for a cheese that melts well to get that gooey texture.
- For a healthier version, use whole-grain buns or even lettuce wraps instead of regular burger buns.

Best burger ever
Jo, do you have any recipe for good burger buns? I want to try and make my own. Thanks.
Hi Ivanka,
I have a recipe for slider buns but is basically burger buns but smaller, so you could shape your buns anyway you want. I also have a recipe for dinner rolls which I think would make great burger buns, especially if you want softer buns.
