The Best Chicken Ranch Burgers

I love ranch dressing! It’s a staple in my house. I even prefer making my own homemade ranch. It’s just the perfect salad dressing, dip, or sauce on almost anything! But how about in a burger!?! Not spread on a burger. That would be too easy! In the burger. Well, that is just what we’ve done here and it’s unbelievably good!

These chicken ranch burgers are like heaven between a bun! It’s a ground chicken burger base seasoned with ranch dressing mix and a dash of Worcestershire sauce. Then toss in a bit of shredded cheddar and you’ve got yourself a winning combination. These burgers are so darn tasty!

And the recipe is so simple, but amazing, which is what makes it such a versatile burger! Always a hit at BBQs and just as good on weeknights when you need a quick and easy dinner. Just add a few sides like my Creamy Cucumber Salad and Mexican Street Corn Salad and you’re all set!

Chicken Ranch Burger Recipe Highlights

  • Addictively Delicious. These chicken burgers are loaded with all the yummy herbs and spices that make ranch so good. Then grilled to perfection to integrate all those flavors together to make the most unforgettable ranch burgers.
  • Quick And Easy. This recipe is a simple 20-minute meal that is perfect on weeknights when you don’t have time as well as at BBQs when you actually want to enjoy your guests instead of cooking the whole time!
  • Prep Ahead Friendly. These chicken patties can easily be prepped the night before and then grilled the next day. Or, you can make the patties and then freeze them for up to 3 months!

Ingredients You’ll Need

ingredients needed to make chicken ranch burgers.

Chicken Burger Patties

  • Ground Chicken – I’m using ground chicken. Ground turkey is another option for this recipe too.
  • Ranch Seasoning Mix – The secret to the burgers! You can find ranch seasoning mix in the salad dressing aisle of your grocery store where it’s normally sold in a packet or make your own using my recipe.
  • Egg – The egg helps to bind the burgers together.
  • Breadcrumbs – Regular or panko breadcrumbs will work.
  • Worcestershire Sauce – Gives the chicken ranch burgers a dash of umami flavor that melds beautifully with the ground chicken and ranch seasoning.
  • Cheddar Cheese – Shredded cheddar cheese adds a bit of salt along with yummy cheddar flavor and melty gooey cheese texture.
  • Hamburger Buns – I love using bakery fresh hamburger buns, but you can use any type of hamburger bun you prefer.
  • Olive Oil – You only need a tiny bit and it helps to keep the chicken burgers from sticking to the grill.

Optional Toppings

  • Veggies – Lettuce leaves, sliced tomatoes, sliced red onion, and pickles.
  • Ranch Dressing– To really make it a ranch burger you can top your burger with some creamy ranch dressing.
  • Bacon – Who doesn’t love bacon on a burger. It just makes everything better.
  • Sliced Cheddar Cheese – You can boost the cheddar experience with a little extra cheese.

How To Make Chicken Ranch Burgers

process shots showing how to make chicken ranch burgers.

Chicken Burger Patties

  1. Preheat your grill. Oil the grates of your grill and then heat to medium-high to get it nice and hot.
  2. Make the patties. In a large bowl, combine the ground chicken, ranch seasoning mix, egg, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire sauce, and the shredded cheddar cheese until well incorporated. Then divide the mixture into 4 and shape into patties that are about ½-inch thick.
  3. Oil the patties. Brush each chicken patty with olive oil. This will help to keep the burgers from sticking to the grates of the grill.
  4. Grill the chicken burgers. Place the patties on the hot grill and cook for 5 minutes making sure not to press down on the burgers as they cook. Then flip the burgers over and cook for another 5 minutes.
  5. Grill the hamburger buns. About 2 minutes before the patties are done cooking, place the buns on the grill sliced side down to warm them for about 30 seconds.
  6. Check the internal temperature. You want to make sure the patties are fully cooked before assembling the burgers. To do this, you can use an instant-read digital meat thermometer to check the temperature of the chicken patties, which needs to be at least 165℉ when inserted into the burger. If your burgers haven’t yet reached 165℉ allow them to cook for another minute and check the temperature again.

Assemble The Burgers

  1. Assemble the chicken ranch burgers. Add a few lettuce leaves to the bottom of the bun, then top with the chicken burger and a slice of cheddar followed by some bacon, a couple of tablespoons of ranch dressing, sliced tomato, red onion, and pickles.

What Is Ranch Dressing?

Ranch is a pretty iconic salad dressing whose creamy delicious flavor is loved by many. I don’t think there is anyone who hasn’t had or doesn’t know of ranch. In fact, it has been the best-selling salad dressing in the United States since 1992. But do you actually know what gives ranch its best-selling flavor!?! At its core, it’s a buttermilk and mayonnaise based sauce that is seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic, onion, mustard, and herbs like chives, parsley, and dill.

Can I Use Turkey Instead Of Chicken?

Yes! You can use ground turkey in place of ground chicken with no problem. However, I do suggest using leaner ground turkey for the best texture and flavor when combined with the ranch seasoning and shredded cheddar cheese.

Can I Bake The Chicken Burgers?

My recommendation is to broil the burgers for 5 minutes on each side versus baking them. But if you don’t have a grill or you can’t broil them, then yes, you can bake the burgers too. Just follow the recipe as directed and then bake the chicken patties on a sheet pan at 400℉ for about 12 minutes flipping them over halfway through.

Expert Tips

  1. Don’t press down. When grilling the chicken burgers never press down on them. If you do, you just might push them through the grates. So instead, just wait until the cooking time is up and flip.
  2. Temp the patties. To ensure the chicken burgers are fully cooked, it’s important to use an instant-read digital meat thermometer to make sure that the burgers have reached 165℉.
  3. Oil the patties. It may seem like you’re just brushing fat onto the patties for no reason, but I promise it’s a lifesaver when it comes to keeping the chicken patties from sticking to the grill. So do yourself a favor and don’t skip this step.
  4. Extra ranch dressing. For the ultimate chicken ranch burgers top them with the additional ranch dressing at the end.

Leftovers

You can store leftover cooked chicken ranch burgers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3 to 5 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months!

Make Ahead

The burgers can be made, formed into patties, and stored in the fridge for up to 2 days before grilling. You can also freeze the formed patties for up to 3 months. But when freezing, make sure to put wax paper or parchment paper in between each patty to keep them from sticking together. Then just thaw out the burgers in the fridge the night before you plan to grill.

I added some fresh basil (about a cup of leaves) and that seemed to add some additional texture to these. Base recipe is yummy, though — will add to quick weeknight list.
