Old Fashioned Lemon Bread – An incredibly delicious quick bread. Totally lemony and tasty and so easy to put together.
I’m just in love with Meyer Lemons, where have they been all my life? I literally have not discovered them until a couple years ago and now I simply cannot get enough of them. I find them all the time now at Costco and I couldn’t be happier. So when life gives you lemons, you must make this old fashioned lemon bread, because it’s simply the best!
I don’t know about you, but I go through baking phases, lots of them. There are times when I don’t really want to cook anything, just bake things. We’re getting some work done in the backyard and I actually cannot wait until the guys start working so that I can bake my heart out and feed them. Is that a little too obsessive? I think not. I’m like that, sometimes. If I like a song, I will put it on repeat and listen to it until I know all the words and have had enough, but it could take days before that happens. Same with baking. Drives hubs crazy!!
So this yummy bread here was born during one of my recent baking moments. I love those baking moments.
Nothing fancy here, just an old fashioned lemon bread with a sweet lemon syrup. But I love these lemon breads, they’re incredible. Must be the lemons, I love lemon anything. See now I’m drooling, wish I had some left now. Lemon bread is actually one of the only things I do not give away/share with others, because it is one of my favs. Sorry friends, family, construction workers! Hmm I think it’s time to bake some more.

Old Fashioned Lemon Bread
- juice from one lemon
- 1/3 cup sugar
- Preheat oven to 350 ° F. Grease and flour 8 x 4-inch baking pan.
- Combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in large bowl. Beat eggs, evaporated milk, oil and lemon zest together in medium bowl. Pour egg mixture into flour mixture. Stir until just combined. Pour into prepared pan.
- Bake for 55 to 60 minutes or until wooden skewer inserted in center comes out clean. Using the skewer, poke numerous holes in the hot bread, piercing all the way to the bottom. Slowly drizzle the hot Lemon Syrup over the bread (Syrup will soak into the bread). Cool on wire rack for 15 minutes; run knife around edge of bread. Remove bread to wire rack to cool completely.
For Lemon Syrup
- Combine 1/3 cup granulated sugar and 1/4 cup lemon juice (1 lemon) in small, heavy-duty saucepan. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring constantly, for about 5 minutes or until sugar is dissolved and a light syrup is formed.
