Better Than Sex Cake

Better than Sex Cake – with a name like this how can you go wrong? Chocolate cake, soaked with sweetened condensed milk, caramel topping, cool whip and pecans.

Close up shot of a slice of Better Than Sex Cake

I have a naughty cake for you! Well the name is naughty but the cake is crazy awesome!

When Penny, a reader, sent me this recipe I just knew I had to make it. How could I not? With a name like better than sex cake, I knew I had to make it and see how it would compare to sex in a pan. I just had to, cause that’s just how I roll!

So I did, and although I’m giving you the full recipe here, don’t pay attention to my 8×8 glass pan you see in the picture because the hand model told me to only make a little bit since there are only 2 of us and we’re not going to eat all that cake. Well that’s the last time I’ll listen to him! Now I have to fight him for that cake because every chance he gets he goes to the fridge and steals a bite or two. There’s not much left, oh how I wish I made the whole thing. So please if you make this, please make the whole thing, because you will thank me.

Better Than Sex Cake

First of all you cannot go wrong with chocolate cake. But then when you soak it with sweetened condensed milk and caramel ice cream topping, well magic happens. And then you go ahead and are even naughtier by adding some cool whip and sprinkling some chopped nuts and toffee bits on top, well then you’ve just gone overboard and turned this cake into a super star.

While it may not look like much in the pictures and you may say to yourself that it looks pretty boring, this cake will fool you. When you take a bite you will be hooked and I dare you to eat only one slice. You’ll probably take the whole pan, grab a fork and gobble the whole thing down. Although I strongly don’t recommend  you do that, you might get a tummy ache. But I do recommend you make this cake, now, PRONTO! Run to the kitchen, I’m pretty sure you have these ingredients. Did I mention the chocolate cake came from a box? Yeah! That’s what’s awesome about this cake!

Slice of Better Than Sex Cake

Thank you Penny! Hugs and kisses!

Ingredients

  • 15.25 ounce chocolate cake mix (any brand will do, I used Duncan Hines)
  • 5 ounce sweetened condensed milk (1 can is 10 oz, so use about 5 oz)
  • 7 ounce caramel ice cream topping (I used Smuckers caramel syrup)
  • 8 ounce cool whip (whipped topping)
  • 1/2 cup pecans (chopped)
  • 1/2 cup toffee bits (I used Skor bits)

Before You Begin! If you make this, please leave a review and rating letting us know how you liked this recipe! This helps our business thrive & continue providing free recipes.

Instructions

  • Bake the cake according to the instructions on the box. Note you will need additional ingredients, for example, eggs, water/milk, oil to make the cake.
  • Let the cake cool completely and poke holes about 1 inch apart using the end of a wooden spoon.
  • Pour the condensed milk into the holes of the cake. Pour the caramel topping over the cake and spread evenly.
  • Spread the cool whip over the caramel topping then sprinkle with the chopped pecans and toffee bits.
  • Refrigerate for about an hour or so then serve.

You just have to follow the instructions on the back of the box, I can’t really list them here, because each cake box mix can be different, based on brand used. The back of the box though has all the ingredients you need to use.

Which is better? The cake or the sex in the pan? I’ve made the cake before and loved it (but its been at least 5 yrs) but wanted to know if I should make the cake again or try the pan for a work function.

Well if I had to choose, I’d go with sex in a pan. Personal favorite. 🙂 Oh and it’s perfect for work functions.

Great for pot lucks. I have made this for years. I combine the sweetened, condensed milk and caramel topping before spreading over cake. And, we prefer chopped Butterfinger bars. YUM

You can give this a try: https://www.smalltownwoman.com/mini-maraschino-cherry-cheesecakes/
I’m sure you can bake it as a whole cake rather than minis.

For poking holes into the cake with the wooden spoon, how far down should you poke the holes?

My daughter made her own variation, she made a vanilla pudding and put it on before Cool whip. We sprinkle shaved chocolate on top instead of toffee. She has also used cookies and cream pudding, but my favorite is the vanilla.

make them for others so you can have a taste only and enjoy the pleasure not only of a very small “taste” but of the enjoyment you bring others….it is how I have kept trim. since mine. Now I am the cook and baker LOL. Love every moment of it! This will be the final treat for our last class.

I have a great story about Better then Sex cake…..:)
I was married in 1984 and my mother in law at that time passed all my husbands favorites recipes to me, and this was at the top of the list. But Barb called it Chocolate Heavenly Delight.
It became my go to desert for office functions and someone eventually informed me that it was actually called “Better then Sex Cake”….LOL
The two us of divorced in 2003, and I took a job in Oman as a contractor. In Jul 2007, I was invited to the 4th of Jul BBQ party hosted by the US Ambassador to Oman, and there was a desert contest planned.
After I decided to attend with another co-worker, the Program Manager of my Company pressed me to enter a desert, and after much thought I decided to track down the ingredients, and make this one.
Long story short is I won first place, and met the US Ambassador in person when he presented me w/a first place medal!!

I have made this cake for years. I always take it to church functions and everyone loves it.
However, the recipe I use called for 14 oz of evaporated milk and Betty Crocker German
Chocolate Cake Mix, with chocolate and toffee chips on top. Sometimes it is a little bit
runny at the bottom so I think I will try the 7 oz of sweetened milk.

Made this for a get-together today and am looking forward to trying it – although just thinking about what went into it is giving me a toothache! If it is anywhere near as good as your “sex in a pan” cake it has to be great. I can honestly say that one is my new favorite dessert of all time. Thanks for both and please keep ’em comin’.

There should be instructions on your boxed cake to show you exactly which types of pans will work. Leave the cake in the pan so that the other ingredients can soak into it!
