pin for daiquiri.

Time to throw a fiesta with this recipe for homemade Daiquiri! Only 3 ingredients required, fresh lime, light rum, and a hint of sweetness. That’s all you need to make this tropical favorite in the comfort of your own home. Looking for a frozen or classic option? Find all the details you need here.

two glasses with daiquiri and garnished with lime wedges.

I’ve been delving in the world of homemade cocktails and I’m blown away by how easy they are. I mean, just look at the recipe. The cocktail has just 3 ingredients! Shake over ice, garnish (if you want), and tilt it back. How much have we been spending on these pricey drinks at schnazzy cocktail bars? Scratch that, don’t tell me. I don’t even want to know.

The daiquiri is such a simple yet magnificent cocktail with a delicate blend of sugar, fresh lime juice and rum. As with any recipe, to get the best tasting daiquiri, use the best ingredients. Make sure to use fresh lime juice squeezed by yourself and not the store bought kind because it will give the cocktail a nice, bright edge.

Ingredient Notes

all ingredients on a counter needed to make daiquiri.
  • Light rum – For it’s slightly sweet and mild flavor. Feel free the adjust the quantity of rum in this recipe, for me 2 oz is quite strong, so if you want something a bit milder, use half the rum recommended.
  • Lime – Fresh juice as well as a twist for garnish. While you can use bottled lime, freshly squeezed it best as it gives the daiquiri a nice, bright edge.
  • Simple syrup – I always make my own simple syrup and I make more than I need then just store the rest in a squeeze bottle in the fridge. This way whenever I want to make a cocktail, I always have simple syrup on hand. Check below for instructions on how to make your own.

How To Make A Classic Daiquiri

  1. Add the rum, lime juice, syrup, and ice to a cocktail shaker. Top the shaker with its lid, and shake gently for 10-15 seconds.
  2. Strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with a twist of lime.

How To Make A Frozen Daiquiri

  1. Add the rum, lime juice, and simple syrup to a blender along with 3/4 cup ice.
  2. Start on low speed, then increase to high. Blend for 1 minute or until smooth. Pour into a cocktail glass, garnish with a twist of lime, and serve.

Thinking about making a frozen strawberry daiquiri? Simply replace the 3/4 cup of ice with 3/4 cup frozen strawberries. You’re welcome!

How To Make Simple Syrup

Simple syrup can be found at your local liquor store, grocery store, or even sometimes sold at coffee shops. Can’t find it? No worries! I always make my own, anyways. Here’s my fool-proof method:

  1. Add equal parts water and granulated sugar to a saucepan or skillet over medium heat. I usually add a cup of each.
  2. Stir often and let the mixture gently heat up. Once the sugar has completely dissolved, you can take the syrup off the heat.
  3. Let the syrup cool for 15-20 minutes before transferring to a bottle to use.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Use Different Spirits?

If you don’t love rum, or you don’t have any handy, this cocktail will still be delicious made with alternatives. Maybe it won’t technically be a daiquiri anymore, but who cares?I find that lighter spirits work best in this drink. Vodka, tequila blanco, or, if you like the flavor, gin will work in this recipe.

Who Invented The Daiquiri?

The daiquiri was supposedly invented by a mining engineer named Jennings Cox, who was in Cuba at the time of the Spanish-American War. It is believed that a congress man who purchased the iron mines in 1902, introduced the daiquiri to clubs in New York.
