Corn On The Cob In The Air Fryer

I love summer because fruits and veggies are in abundance and one of my favorite things to eat is corn on the cob. I love it grilled, I love it when I make it in my Instant Pot, in the oven or boiled, but now I love making it in my air fryer. Making corn on the cob in the air fryer is probably the quickest way to make it, and you’re going to love it!

It’s like grilling it without turning on the grill. You can make it as roasted and as crispy as you like. And the best part has got to be all the awesome toppings you can serve it with. I love mine with butter, sour cream, paprika, salt and pepper and even plain.

Ingredients You’ll Need

a stack of corn on the cob.

There’s only one ingredient you need and that is corn. Pick a nice sweet corn and depending where you live, farmers markets should have corn in abundance. You can shuck it yourself or buy it already shucked, up to you. There’s nothing else you need to make this in the air fryer. You’ll notice some recipes will use olive oil but seriously, no oil is needed, it will not stick to the air fryer.

As far as toppings go, go with your favorites. Sometimes simple is better like with just butter, salt and pepper. But sometimes, if you want something extra special, try sour cream, feta cheese or cotija cheese, a sprinkle of some paprika, or whatever else you like.

How To Make Corn On The Cob In The Air Fryer

corn on the cob in an air fryer basket.
  1. Prep the corn. Make sure the corn fits in your air fryer basket, otherwise trim the ends as needed to fit.
  2. Cook the corn on the cob. Place the ears of corn on in the basket. Turn the air fryer on to 370°F and air fry the corn for 12 to 15 minutes or until tender, shaking the basket halfway through.
  3. Serve with favorite toppings. Serve with your favorite toppings such as butter, sour cream, salt, pepper, etc.

Can I Cook Frozen Corn On The Cob In The Air Fryer?

While I strongly recommend fresh corn on the cob, you can cook frozen corn in the air fryer. Let it thaw out completely and then try and squeeze out as much excess liquid as you can from it. I usually wrap it in paper towels and squeeze as much as possible. Also watch out for cooking time. Because thawed frozen corn has softer kernels, it will take a little less time to cook, so start checking after about 7 minutes.

How To Purchase Corn On The Cob?

When buy corn on the cob, you want the freshest corn you find. Look for husks that are bright green in color, tightly wrapped around the cob and slightly damp. The kernels should be plump and milky. Avoid stems that are already brown, that’s a good indicator that the corn is most likely not fresh.

How Can I Serve Corn On The Cob?

You can add butter and salt to taste and serve the corn this way, or you can even mix it up a little bit and sprinkle some smoked paprika or ground pepper over your corn to enhance the flavors. Other toppings that you can add are garlic butter, Parmesan cheese, cinnamon sugar, chimichurri sauce, lemon pepper or even hot sauce.

Expert Tips

  1. You’ll want to cook the corn in a single layer, so don’t stack them. I could fit 4 in my air fryer basket, but it depends on the size of your basket.
  2. No oil is necessary, but you can always spray your basket with a bit of cooking oil, though I found it made no difference at all.
  3. Check the ears of corn before and make sure they fit in the air fryer basket. If they don’t, you might have to cut the tips off so they’ll fit. You can even cut them in half if you have a smaller air fryer.
  4. The cooking time can vary on the air fryer. The good thing is that you can open your basket at any time and check on the progress.

Leftovers

If you do end up having leftover corn on the cob, make sure to add it to an airtight container after they cool down and store them in the fridge. It will be good to eat for up to 3-4 days.

Freezing

You can also freeze your cooked corn on the cob, just make sure you freeze it in airtight containers or freezer bags.

You can freeze uncooked corn, by flash freezing it first. Simply place the corn on the cob in a pan or baking sheet, husks removed, place the pan in the freezer for a couple hours until corn is frozen. Remove the corn on the cob from the freezer, and wrap it tightly in plastic wrap, freezer bags or airtight containers and freeze.
