Apple Pie Taquitos – crispy, sweet, and delicious, these taquitos are simple to make. All the makings of a great apple pie, in a fun taquito form. Genius!
Because it’s a weekday, let’s celebrate with something sweet, why not. And because these apple pie taquitos are so easy to make, that you can make them on a weekday, in the morning, after work, whatever strikes your fancy. But even better than that, these taquitos are so good, you’ll thank me.
These taquitos are great because they only require 5 simple ingredients; apple pie filling, sugar, cinnamon, butter and tortillas. All the makings of a great apple pie, but in an adorable taquito form. I have to admit the idea is simply genius.
What Are Taquitos?
It’s essentially just a rolled up taco, that’s it! You fill a tortilla with whatever filling your heart desires, roll it up and crisp it. I took some creative license today and stuffed these full of apple pie filling, we’re turning savory into sweet and believe me it’s beyond worth it.
I drizzled mine with some caramel sauce because that’s just how I roll. Not saying you need the caramel sauce, but I just think of ways to take something amazing and make them more decadent.
Ingredients
Detailed measurements and instructions can be found on the printable recipe card at the bottom of the page.
- Apple pie filling – One entire 20 oz can of apple pie filling.
- Tortillas – I used medium sized flour tortillas.
- Butter – Unsalted so as to control the sodium content of our dish.
- Cinnamon – To boost that apple pie flavor and create dimension and complexity.
- Sugar – White granulated sugar to give us a clean sweet flavor to our dessert.
How To Make Apple Pie Taquitos
- Preheat oven: To 350 F degrees. Brush a 9×13 baking dish with some of the melted butter.
- Prep the filling: In a shallow plate mix together the sugar and cinnamon. Empty the can of pie filling onto a cutting board and chop the apples into smaller pieces with a knife.
- Assemble the taquitos: Lay a tortilla flat and top with a couple tablespoons of the apple pie filling. Tightly roll up the tortilla. Brush the taquito with butter the roll it through the sugar/cinnamon mixture. Place the taquito in the prepared baking dish. Repeat with remaining tortillas and apple pie filling. You should have enough filling for the 12 tortillas.
- Finish the dish: Bake for about 15 minutes or until the taquitos start to get golden on top. Serve with caramel sauce if preferred.
Other Fillings
Feel free to use whichever filling you’d prefer for this recipe. This sweet taquito tastes so completely scrumptious with any number of pie fillings. Berries, pecans, raisins, cherries, pumpkin, whatever your heart desires!
Leftovers
You can store these for up to 3 days sealed in an airtight container. Warm in the microwave or reheat in the oven before eating.
Make Ahead
For making these taquitos ahead, you could prepare them as noted in the instructions up to and including step 4, cover the baking dish and freeze until ready for baking. Thaw out before baking.

Made them yesterday in the oven. They never browned. Tried them again today, but made them in the air fryer, 390 degrees for 4 minutes, flip over & continue cooking for 1-2 minutes. Served with vanilla ice cream. Delicious, quick, easy dessert.
Making this for the first time with gluten free tortillas
My family absolutely loved this recipe! I added a full teaspoon of cinnamon to the sugar. I added 1/4 tsp of nutmeg, apple pie spice, and vanilla extract to the apples (to give the authentic apple pie taste). Put a dollop of vanilla ice cream on top after cooking. FABULOUS!
Have you made this with corn tortillas? Wondering if that would taste weird or be ok. (Looking for gf).
I have not made these with corn tortillas. They will definitely taste a bit different but if you’re looking for GF, it might be the way to go. I know there are some other GF tortillas out there that you can try, I think Mr. Tortilla has low carb tortillas but I’m not sure if they’re entirely gluten free.
Can I bake these a day ahead and warm in warming oven before serving?
I want to make them for a large Mexican meal.
About 100 people.
Absolutely! Good luck cooking for so many. 🙂
I made these using your apple pie filling recipe. They were delicious!
Just got an air fryer, made these from apple pie filling I put up, last summer….and caramel from my beautiful cows. Amazing and easy, after my summer work.
it says video at the bottom but nope no video
Yep, there is! The video is right in the recipe card at the very bottom of the page. There is also a “jump to video” button you can click at the top of the page that will take you right to it. If you still can’t see the video, that means that you have ad blocker turned on, you’ll have to turn that off to play the video.
I will be making these again… delish!!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
How come when I hit the button jump to video it doesn’t have a video?
It should take you right to the video in the recipe card! It might jump a little bit far, but the video is in the very bottom of the recipe card 🙂 If you have an ad blocker turned on, the video also might not show up!
Great recipe but I used a vegan caramel sauce recipe- animals matter!
did you make the caramel sauce or purchased it? If you made it, where can I find the recipe?
I used store bought in this recipe, but you can make your own using this simple recipe: https://www.jocooks.com/recipes/1-ingredient-caramel-sauce/
Love them, easy to make, delicious.
These were easy and really good!
I made these using some black cherry pie filling I needed to use up and coated the outside with melted butter and sugar. They were so quick and easy, they crisped and browned perfectly in 15 minutes. I served them with homemade no-churn black cherry ice cream, absolutely delicious. A brilliant way of making a quick, inexpensive dessert and using up Small amounts of fruit that need eating.
What an awesome idea! So glad you liked them 🙂
