Are you guys ready to party? Because I have the most perfect and delicious cocktail for  you. I thought I should end the year properly and share with you this cocktail recipe because I love it and I think it’s perfect to toast with on New Year’s Eve!

What Is A Grenadine Sunrise?

This is a little cocktail that I love to sip upon that combines the colors of a Shirley Temple, the bubbles of a mimosa, with the buzz of some nice warming cognac and brandy. This drink is as chuggable as it is beautiful, with that gorgeous gradient of color. If you haven’t explored the world of cocktails much, let this be your welcome drink!

What Is Grand Marnier?

This is a French liqueur that is surprisingly strong, a whopping 80%, so add carefully. It is made of distilled essence of bitter orange and sugar, so keep in mind that it adds a sweet citrusy note to any drink you introduce it to. Don’t know how to use up an entire bottle once you’re done with this drink?

I like to add it to late night coffees or just sip it over ice – combine it with some of the cognac you picked up and you’ve got a booze forward little sipper on your hands!

Ingredients Notes

  • Booze – Prosecco, Grand Marnier, and cognac/brandy. Feel free to pick up any prosecco or cognac/brandy that you happen to prefer.
  • Juice – Orange juice – either freshly squeezed or from the store! This will give our drink acidity and brightness.
  • Simple syrup – We’re going to make this ingredient ourselves with a bit of hot water and white sugar – super easy.
  • Grenadine – For color, sweetness, and flavor. It won’t be a grenadine sunrise without it!
  • Orange peel – Just a little ribbon of it cut for garnish.

How To Make Grenadine Sunrise

  1. Make simple syrup by dissolving the sugar in the hot water. Set aside.
  2. Assemble the drink: In a pitcher, combine the orange juice, Grand Marnier, cognac, and symple syrup. Chill until ready to serve.
  3. Serve: When ready to serve, add the Prosecco to the pitcher and stir. Pour mixture into 8 champagne flutes or glasses. With the glass slightly tipped, slowly pour a splash of Grenadine down the inside of each cocktail.
  4. Garnish each cocktail with an orange peel and serve.

How To Make Your Own Grenadine

  • Juice from 1/2 a lemon
  • 1/4 cup of white granulated sugar
  • 1 cup of 100% pomegranate syrup

Combine the sugar and pomegranate juice on the stove top and heat on medium heat till the sugar has dissolved. Allow the mixture to come to a rapid boil to allow it to thicken before removing from the heat. Add the lemon juice and stir, allow the mixture to cool completely.

Now you can use it in Tequila Sunrise, Shirley Temples, or even Roy Rogers! Enjoy!

Looking To Make This Drink A Little Less Sweet?

To reduce the sugar content, use some cranberry juice in place of the grenadine. Pomegranate juice can also be used in this recipe, just be wary of the sugar content before you add it.
