Incredibly easy to make Asian Steak Bites that are ready in 15 minutes or less! These Asian inspired, tender and juicy steak bites are made with an easy 4 ingredient sauce, making these tiny morsels perfect as an appetizer or for a dinner along some rice and veggies.
Asian Steak Bites
Since I’ve moved to Alberta, I’ve learned to enjoy a good steak, because let’s be honest, we do have some of the best beef in the world here. So besides just having a good steak every once in a while, I do enjoy cooking with beef and making lots of yummy recipes with it.
One of the easiest things you can make with a good steak is steak bites such as these Garlic Butter Steak Bites or these Asian inspired steak bites because they literally take less than 15 minutes to make from start to finish. These tiny morsels are loaded with great flavor from the wonderful marinade ingredients and the epic 4 ingredient sauce. They’re perfectly tender, juicy and super satisfying.
Asian Steak Bites Highlights
- Cooked To Perfection. If you follow my instructions, you will end up with the most tender and juicy steak bites ever that are perfectly glazed in an epic Asian style sauce.
- Incredibly Quick And Easy. Anyone can make this recipe. Simply cut your steak, marinate it as instructed, but you don’t even have to wait for it to marinate and cook it. Easy peasy.
- Perfect As An Appetizer Or A Meal. That’s the beauty of this recipe. You can serve these steak bites as an appetizer, just stick a toothpick in them and pass them along, or serve them along some rice and some veggies for a complete meal.
- Steak – I used a ribeye steak, cut into 1-inch cubes, because I find it makes the most juiciest steak bites. Other cut of beef you can use are top sirloin, flank steak or tenderloin. If your ribeye steak has a lot of fat on it, especially around the edges, I recommend to trim some of that fat.
- Baking Soda – This is one of those secret ingredients you’ll see me use occasionally on meat because it’s a great tenderizer. It also helps with browning the meat.
- Cornstarch – Helps thicken up our sauce plus it also adds a bit of silky and smooth texture on the outside of the steak bites.
- Sweet Soy Sauce – To add a nice dark color to our beef. You can also use regular dark soy sauce instead, or if you can’t find that either, just replace it with additional regular soy sauce.
- Soy Sauce – Choose a low sodium soy sauce.
- Hoisin Sauce – This is going to add some sweetness to our beef. You can sub this with teriyaki sauce, plum sauce or even oyster sauce.
- Pepper – You’ll want some nice coarsely ground black pepper. Use as much as you like, I prefer a little bit more in this dish, but you be the judge.
For Sauce
- Hoisin Sauce – You can sub this with teriyaki sauce, plum sauce or even oyster sauce.
- Soy Sauce – As I mentioned already, choose a low sodium soy sauce for less sodium.
- Chili Garlic Sauce – Such as Sambal Oelek which is my favorite, but any chili garlic sauce will work. Sub with sriracha sauce.
- Honey – For a bit of sweetness. Sub with regular sugar or brown sugar.
- Marinate the beef. In a medium size bowl, combine the beef with all the marinade ingredients together. Set aside while preparing the sauce and heating up the wok or skillet.
- Prepare the sauce. In a small bowl whisk all the sauce ingredients together and set aside until ready to add to steak bites.
- Cook the steak bites. Heat a wok or non-stick skillet over high heat until hot. Add the marinated beef to the wok and arrange in a single layer. Sear for a minute before tossing then continue cooking for another 2 minutes, tossing a couple times, until the steak bites look almost charred. This is for medium-rare, if you prefer it medium, just cook it a minute or so longer.
- Add the sauce. Pour the sauce over the steak bites and cook for another minute while tossing then remove the wok from heat.
- Garnish and serve. Serve immediately garnished with green onions and sesame seeds.
What’s The Best Cut Of Beef To Use For Steak Bites
As mentioned, I used ribeye steak because it’s a tender and incredibly flavorful. Other cuts you could use would be tenderloin, sirloin steak, flank steak, or New York strip steak.
Serve With These Steak Bites
Skillet Green Beans
Cilantro Lime Rice
Air Fryer No Knead Bread
Brown Butter Mashed Potatoes
Expert Tips
- It’s very important to get your wok or skillet very hot to get a nice crispy outside on the steak bites.
- Cooking time will vary depending on the size you cut the steak bites and how hot your skillet is which is why I recommend to get your skillet really hot before adding the meat to it.
- If you’re doubling the recipe, you will have to cook the beef in two batches, otherwise the meat will steam rather than sear.
- Notice I didn’t add any salt and that is because there is plenty of salt from the soy sauce. However, taste and adjust with salt and pepper as needed.
Leftovers
Allow the steak bites to come to room temperature before storing them to an airtight container and refrigerating for up to 3 days.

Is the “sweet soy sauce” eel sauce?
Different from the “soy sauce” in the sauce part of the recipe?
Hi there! Sweet soy sauce is often referred to as “Kecap Manis” which is thicker and sweeter than regular soy sauce. It’s not the same as eel sauce, though they both have a sweet profile. In this recipe, the sweet soy sauce adds a distinct depth and sweetness, setting it apart from the regular soy sauce. If you can’t find sweet soy sauce, you can substitute it with a mix of regular soy sauce and a bit of brown sugar.
Amazing!!!! 😍😍😍
This recipe, after adding a bit of my own twist on it (mainly sesame oil and some chili oil) came out wonderfully. My girlfriend says it was hands down the most delicious dish I have made for her yet and it was up against some serious competition. We paired this with a Asian style salad, and some sake and it was a wonderful meal. I called it my Asian surf and turf lol.
Sounds delicious, glad you enjoyed it!
Really tasty I would recommend it with broccoli it was delicious
Looks great, glad you liked it!
The Asian Steak bites are fantastic – wonderful flavor. Highly recommend.
I want to make these bites and bring them to a party. If I make ahead will it be ok to warm in the micro?
You have a couple options to warm up your steak bites:
Thanks for the suggestions. Can’t wait to give these a try.
A little one note, sweet. I added more chili garlic as well as rice vinegar, fresh ginger and garlic. Overall a good base to start with.
This was such a good recipe… my boys loved it!!! Thank you. ❤️
This is a must make. Easy, simple and very delicious. Made with rib eye steak and it was melt in your mouth goodness. Already planning my next meal.
So glad you like it!
This sounds delicious! I am planning to make it this week, but wonder if you include the marinade when you add the beef to the hot wok?
There’s not much there, but yeah I just dumped everything in the wok and arranged it in a single layer.
Thank you. Immediately after sending my question, I realized that you posted a video that made it very clear. Can’t wait to try this 🙂
Looks scrumptious Jo, & I just happen to have everything on hand, except for the sweet soy sauce. It’s great that you provided substations for it.
I hope my neighbor doesn’t mind that I mortgaged her house to pay for the steak 🥴 (just kidding! ) Alberta beef rules – & as an old, born & bred Alberta farm girl I know my beef. Go Oilers!
Hi Terry! HA! As long as it’s your neighbour’s house and not yours, all good. 🙂
