These are the bakes and no-bakes that have been made thousands (and thousands) of times by Jo Cooks readers. Some of them—like Sex in a Pan—are the reason my blog took off in the first place. Others are newer favorites, but just as loved in my house (and yours). I’ve tested every single one, some on repeat until I got the exact texture or flavor I wanted. So if you’re looking for sweet recipes that work, start here.

Fan Favorites That Never Fail

Here are the all-stars—recipes with a cult following, rave reviews, and a permanent spot in my recipe hall of fame:

a slice of sex in a pan on a white plate.

Sex in a Pan

This Sex in a Pan has a crazy name for a dessert, but it’s one of the best desserts you’ll ever have, it's mostly a pudding dessert with a crunchy pecan bottom crust.

Magic Cake

The original Magic Cake recipe from JoCooks, first shared in 2013 and still one of the most made recipes on the blog. 1 thin batter poured into a pan and baked at low heat until it separates on its own into 3 completely distinct layers: a dense base, a creamy custard middle, and a light sponge top. 7 basic ingredients, no special equipment, and a result that surprises people every single time.

Cinnabon Cinnamon Rolls

Soft, pillowy rolls swirled with cinnamon sugar, baked until golden, then drowned—yes, drowned—in the dreamiest cream cheese frosting. These homemade Cinnabon-style rolls are the reason people show up early for brunch and linger for dessert. They’re gooey, indulgent, and 100% worth the wait.

Beignets

Nothing beats homemade Beignets! They're soft, pillowy, fluffy and airy, not to mention totally scrumptious. Close your eyes, take a bite and enjoy!

Tres Leches Cake

Here's a delicious recipe for Tres Leches Cake with a moist sponge cake soaked in a mixture of three different milks and topped with whipped cream and berries. This classic Latin American dessert is perfect for any occasion and is sure to impress!

My Personal Favorites

These are the ones I gravitate toward when I want something cozy, creamy, or just plain irresistible.

a bunch of crepes folded on a plate.

Homemade Crepes

These Homemade Crepes are soft, thin, and perfectly golden, just like my mom used to make every Sunday growing up. Whether you fill them with jam, Nutella, or something fancy, this no fail batter gives you the kind of crepes that disappear before you’ve even finished making the stack.

Creamy Flan

Indulge in this delightful Creamy Flan—a twist on the classic Spanish dessert. Its creamy, tangy custard and luscious caramel sauce will leave you craving more. Try my easy recipe and wow your friends and family with this scrumptious treat!

Lemon Pudding Cake

These Lemon Pudding Cakes are made with only one batter and on 7 ingredients, yet gives you two layers of delicious lemony delight. The top is a light and airy cake layer, and the bottom, a silky pudding bursting with fresh lemon flavor.

Bread Pudding

This Bread Pudding recipe is a true delight for anyone who loves cozy, comforting desserts. It's made with soft brioche bread soaked in a rich, sweet custard, spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg. You can add raisins and pecans for extra flavor and texture. Baked until golden and served with a homemade, buttery sauce, it's the perfect treat for any occasion.

Simple Classic Lemon Bars

These Simple Classic Lemon Bars are one of those desserts I never get tired of. Bright and creamy lemon filling on top of a buttery shortbread crust, what more do you need? They’re fuss-free, wildly nostalgic, and always the first thing to vanish at any party.

Baking for a Holiday?

Whether it’s Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, or a random Tuesday that feels like it needs dessert, these recipes deliver every time.

Most can be made ahead, many are freezer-friendly, and all are crowd-pleasers. Some are best served chilled (hello, Sex in a Pan—just don’t skip the baked crust), while others are warm, cozy classics like bread pudding. These are the desserts people remember—the ones that disappear first at potlucks and make your guests ask, “You made this?”

Reader Tips

  • Bookmark this list—these are the recipes readers make again and again.
  • Many of these can be made ahead or frozen. Great for planning ahead.
  • Don’t skip the chilling time where it’s listed—I test everything until it’s just right.
