Ingredients
- Shrimp – I’m using jumbo sized shrimp today, deveined but with the tails still on.
- Maple syrup – We’re using quite a bit of syrup today to make a nice sweet glaze. You can use honey instead if that’s all you have on hand.
- BBQ sauce – Store bought works just fine for this recipe today!
- Bacon – Thin cut and about 9 strips.
- Seasoning – Salt and pepper.
- Chives – Just to be sprinkled on top as a nice bright garnish.
How To Make Maple BBQ Glazed Bacon Wrapped Shrimp
- Preheat your oven: Preheat your oven to 375 F degrees. Cover a baking sheet with aluminum foil, this will save you from having to scrub your baking sheet plus it helps with crisping up the bacon all around. Place a cookie rack on top of the baking sheet this will help the bacon crisp up all around the shrimp.
- Prepare the shrimp: Remove the shells from the shrimp, but keep the tail on. Devein the shrimp using a pairing knife, if needed.
- Mix the sauce: In a small bowl whisk together the maple syrup and BBQ sauce. Season the shrimp generously with salt and pepper.
- Assemble your bacon wrapped shrimp: Wrap each shrimp with a piece of bacon. There is no need to secure it with toothpicks, the bacon should stick to the shrimp, just make sure to lay the bacon wrapped shrimp on the prepared baking sheet with the seam side down. Repeat with remaining shrimp and bacon.
- Cook the shrimp: Brush each bacon wrapped shrimp generously with the maple syrup and BBQ sauce mixture. Bake the shrimp for 15 minutes. Then turn the broiler on and broil for 2 to 3 minutes more. You basically want to make sure the bacon is crisped up enough.
- Finish the shrimp: If preferred, once the shrimp is cooked, brush with additional maple syrup and BBQ sauce mixture if you have any leftovers. Garnish with chopped chives and serve.
Can I Make Bacon Wrapped Shrimp On The BBQ?
You can definitely make these on the BBQ or grill! Just soak wooden skewers in water for 15 minutes or use metal skewers, slide you bacon wrapped shrimp on them and glaze. Place these on a hot grill and cook till the shrimp turn opaque.

Notes
- I used thin cut bacon slices because they are easier to wrap around the shrimp. Also if the slices are longer, you may need to cut them in 3, but just make sure the pieces are long enough to wrap around the shrimp at least once.
- I used a hickory BBQ sauce, but feel free to use your favorite BBQ sauce, whether it’s store bought or homemade.

Can I make these ahead & put in the crock pot to keep warm or will the shrimp get chewy? I’m talking maybe 4 hours on warm in the crock pot.
It depends on what temperature the “warm” setting on your crockpot is. Refer to your manual. Shrimp shouldn’t be cooked more than 145F.
SO good. These are definitely on the menu every week now!
Hi Jo. I am a bacon lover, bacon makes everything better! I also happen to love shrimp. In fact I am making cajun barbecued shrimp tonight, along with a salad because it is 90F here and cooking is not high on my to do list. I will be making these shrimp soon, that combo of maple syrup and bbq sauce sounds wonderful. It would be good on bacon wrapped scallops too! Have you tried bacon wrapped dates? You should, along with bacon wrapped pineapple.
Oh yes I have, both of them, and yes they are heavenly!!
These shrimp look like absolute perfection…
Thanks, Sara!
Hi Jo. These look awesome and I can’t wait to try them. Have you ever tried mixing barbecue sauce with Kaluah or similar coffee liqueur? It is pretty tasty as well. Give it a whirl!
I like the way you thing, Lori! I will definitely give that a try! I have mixed it with whiskey before but will have to try the coffee liqueur or Kaluah!
